Part V: The DIY Drafting Table Having figure out adequate storage solutions,, and an all-purpose desk for general work, the last major furniture solution loomed: I needed a large work surface for art and craft projects: sewing, fabric-cutting, drawing, papercrafts, design and layout, etc. It'd have been awesome to have a dedicated cutting table and an drafting table, but I wouldn't have the room. A large drafting table would work, but they're often very large, and the support trestles can take up a lot of space, and I didn't have any to spare. When I discovered the, with its built it lightbox option, tool tray, and generous size, I knew it'd be perfect, but the recommended had a large footprint, and wouldn't fit So, I came up with a hacked option that would allow for the adjustable angle, but not suck up so much valuable floor space. And I saved a little money as well. Materials • Flat desk surface, such as a secondhand table, solid core door, or new modular desktop, like the • 2x desk-height table legs, like the • 2x adjustable-height table legs, like the • 2x heavy-duty 3' one-way hinges and accompanying screws • scrap 1/2' plywood and hardboard • saw • electric drill and assorted bits • metal file or rotary tool. Use a file, grinder, or rotary cutter to cut or smooth any protrusion of the screws, then attach the fixed legs to this side of the plywood. Then, attach the adjustable legs to the back of the desktop, and invert. Set the back legs to the desired height (if you're using the IKEA legs, it's lefty-tighty for some reason). The only flaw in this system is that the desk has to sit further from the wall the higher the back goes, but it's not terribly far. And obviously, the desk can't sit vertically as in some drafting tables, but it can't do that on the IKEA trestle either. It gets to nearly a 45-degree angle, and that's good enough for me. You could also use the adjustable legs on the front as well, and still use the hinge-technique on the legs. Chrisjob on Feb 21, 2011: @Nartholis - the hinges are opened and placed such that it stays 90-degrees to the horizontal plane. Well, maybe 87-88 degrees but it works; I'm actually sitting on the front of it as I type this, to test your concern, and its very steady. I'm trying to push it forward, and can't, really. I agree it's not an industrial strength solution, but it's a great option for me given my space requirements and needs. @Steven - I got it at the art supply store. Came in black, but I sprayed on a few coats of the same color I used on the lamp and other fixtures around the room. Chrisjob on Jan 31, 2011: @ Curious - You can see in the second- and third-to-last ohotos that the hinges are in the front right and left corners of the table. In the image with the sparks, the wood square that sits in the corner is attached to the hinge, and the leg is attached to the plywood. The hinges change the angle that the legs relate to the table. As the back rises, the table angle is adjusted. If the legs were always at 90-degrees to the tabletop, they would then move as the table is changed. The hinges allow the legs to stay at a right angle to the floor regardless of the position of the table.

Part of today’s Gospel reading, John 3:16 is most certainly the best known verse of scripture from the Holy Bible. In addition to children memorizing this verse in Sunday school and Vacation Bible School, John 3:16 is found today even in popular culture. Businesses print the scripture citation on the bottoms of shopping bags, shipping boxes and other product packaging. One California-based hamburger restaurant chain even prints 'John 3:16' in small red print on the inside rims of the bottoms of their paper cups. The departing procession hymn this morning (Mar. Composers throughout the centuries have set these important words to music, and the anthem at Choral Evensong this afternoon is a beautiful, sublime setting by contemporary British composer (b. This setting gently rocks back and forth, setting up and ultimately ending with an ethereal soprano solo line on top of the choral harmonies of the anthem. [youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZySFMAI5nFg]. 'One of the most versatile choral composers around today, and one, moreover, who thoroughly understands the human voice, Bob Chilcott has presented the choral repertoire with an unusual setting of one of the loveliest passages from the New Testament, John 3:16... A very welcome addition to the Passiontide and Easter repertoire, it is within the capabilities of any good parish church choir. Warmly recommended.' - Herbert Howell, Australian Music Teacher March 2002 'This is a very simple, homophonic setting, essentially a four-part first section repeated with an added solo-soprano counter melody. In spite of the apparent simplicity, this is an expressive setting with some interesting harmonic colouring and ever-extending melodic range. The added soprano line adds some uplifting touches. As part of worship it could provide a moment of intense spirituality if performed with appropriate style, feeling and conviction.' - Music Teacher Nov 2000. Bob Chilcott has been involved in choral music for most of his life. He was a chorister and choral scholar at King's College, Cambridge, and for twelve years was a member of the vocal group The King's Singers. Since 1997 he has worked as a full-time composer and has written a wide variety of choral music, including a significant amount of music for young choirs. He has over one hundred pieces published by Oxford University Press, and a number of his choral works have been published in German, Swedish, Norwegian, and Slovenian. As well as being Principal Guest Conductor of the BBC Singers, he has conducted many other leading choirs in their field, including the World Youth Choir, the RIAS Kammerchor, Orphei Drangar from Sweden, Jauna Musika from Lithuania, the Taipei Chamber Singers, and the Tower New Zealand Youth Choir. He has worked in 23 countries on six continents, and at festivals from Festival 500 in Newfoundland to Tallinn, where in 2004, as the first foreign musician to be invited, he conducted a choir of 7000 young singers at the Estonian Song Festival in one of his most popular pieces, 'Can you hear me?' Bob Chilcott: Weather Report Review: The weather, the most quintessentially English of topics, was the inspiration for Bob Chilcott's Weather Report, written for the BBC Singers. Chilcott weaves together a tapestry of well-known weather rhymes to create a work that is energetic, quirky, and entertaining. His choral writing is inventive and full of character, using layered rhythms and jazzy harmonies. This is a fun piece to perform, and perfect as a light addition to any concert programme. The spiral-bound edition is accompanied by a fantastic backing CD, allowing choirs to perform with jazz-trio accompaniment. Bob Chilcott: 5 Songs For Upper Voice Review: This exciting and accessible collection for upper voices (scored for SA choir and piano) features five brand-new songs by celebrated choral composer Bob Chilcott. Drawing on five very different texts, Chilcott guides the voices through a number of styles and moods; the songs include the rousing 'All for Love of One', gentle 'The Truth is Great', and thought-provoking 'All things pass'. The central song, 'Circles of Motion', is a fervent and positive setting of Joy Harjo's well-known 'Eagle Poem', and the collection is completed by the funky 'Red Boots On', which uses jazzy rhythms and harmonies to bring Kit Wright's text alive. This is Chilcott at his very best - a welcome addition to the repertoire of any upper-voice choir. Songlist: All For Love of One, The Truth Is Great, Circles of Motion, All Things Pass, Red Boots On 7070b| Songbook $6.95| SA Treble. Bob Chilcott: Advent Antiphons Review: Composed for the Reykjavik Cathedral Choir's 'Solo Dei Gloria' Festival in 2004, Advent Antiphons is an exquisite concert setting of the Great O Antiphons. Traditionally chanted or sung between 17 and 23 December, the Antiphons comprise seven brief prayers which proceed in sequence, charting events from before Creation through to the birth of Christ. The powerful sentiments conveyed in these texts are brought to the fore in Chilcott's masterful writing for double choir; he embroiders a beautifully textured work in which echoes of plainchant combine with richly expressive harmony. In the third and fifth movements, the composer instructs the individual sopranos and altos in each choir to sing their parts in their own rhythm, to entrancing effect. Without doubt, this is some of Chilcott's finest music to date; subtle yet potent, haunting, and uplifting. Songlist: O Sapientia, O Adonai, O Radix Jesse, O Clavis David, O Oriens, O Rex Gentium, O Emmanuel 9347b| Songbook $7.95| SSAATTBB. Bob Chilcott: Anthems Review: These anthems by Andrew Carter, Bob Chilcott, and John Rutter contain ten of their most popular pieces to date. The anthems have been carefully selected to be both approachable to a wide range of choirs and appropriate to the needs of today's liturgy. Together, these collections offer an unrivalled choice of text, style, and scoring, which will make them indispensible and treasured additions to any choir library. Songlist: And Thank Him Then, Be Thou My Vision, even Such Is Time, God Loved So The World, If Ye Love Me, Irish Blessing, Just As I Am, Song From Jubilate, Sweet Prospect, Walk Softly 9349b| Songbook $10.95| SATB. Bob Chilcott: Carols Review: The carols of Bob Chilcott have quickly become classics of the repertoire. Fresh, arrestingly beautiful, and exquisitely crafted, they signal a new direction for carol writing, and appeal to a wide range of singers of all ages. This collection of carols for mixed voices assembles nine of the finest pieces from Chilcott's first ten years with Oxford, including two new pieces specially written for the book. Together, they offer a reat range of styles and moods, and provide a moving narration of the Christmas story that will delight choirs and their audiences for years to come. Songlist: Christmas-tide, For Him And All Stars Have Shone, Lully, Lulla, Thou Little Tiny Child, Mid-Winter, Nova! Bob Chilcott: Carols Vol 2 Review: Previously published under the title Gaudete!, this collection has been re-covered to complement Bob Chilcott's first Christmas choral anthology. From the simple, understated beauty of 'Away in a manger' to the exuberant jazz waltz version of 'We wish you a merry Christmas', this volume takes a fresh look at classics of the Christmas repertoire. Songlist: Away in a manger, Coventry Carol, Gaudete!, Il est ne, le divin enfant, Jesus, Jesus, rest your head, Jingle, Bells, Still, still, still, Sussex Carol, We wish you a merry Christmas, What child is this? 7065b| Songbook $10.95| SATB. Bob Chilcott: I Share Creation Review: An uplifting and joyful concert setting of four texts exploring man's relationship with the earth. Brimming with energy, the work has a wonderful freshness and vitality. Chilcott selects a range of evocative texts from ancient Chinese, Aztec, Eskimo, and native American cultures. Chilcott's skill for capturing the essence and meaning of words in music shines throughout the work. Songlist: When the Sun Rises, The Earth, The Innermost House, Come to the Great World 7069b| Songbook $8.95| SATB. Bob Chilcott: Sacred Choral Selections Review: The beautiful eight-part setting of 'My Prayer' starts out with a beautiful alto duet. This challenging piece is a joy to perform and to hear. 'Pray that Jerusalem may have peace' is a Scottish Psalter that was commisioned to commemorate the 150th Anniversary of the consecration of Glenalmond College Chapel. The multiple key and tempo changes make this a challenging but exciting piece to perform. The text in 'God so loved the world' comes from John 3:16. The soprano solo adds a beautiful descant to this touching piece. 'Even Such Is Time' comes from the text by Sir Walter Raleight. The piece starts out with soft, but expressive, four-part harmonies. Half way through the song, the men's parts divisi. The soprano solo at the end adds a great finish. George Herber's text in 'Even-Song' is brought to life with gorgeous harmonies and yet another sweet soprano solo. Songlist: My Prayer, Pray That Jerusalem May Have Peace, God So Loved The World, Even Such Is Time, Even-Song 9372b| Songbook $9.95| SATB. Bob Chilcott: Songs and Cries of London Town Review: Songs And Cries Of London by Bob Chilcott is a vibrant and varied choral cantata in five movements for SATB choir, upper-voice choir, piano duet, and optional percussion. The two outer movements draw their words and inspiration from 'The Cries Of London' by Orlando Gibbons and frame three contrasting middle movements setting a poem each by Dunbar and wordsworth, as well as the anonymous 18th century rhyme 'Oranges and Lemons.' Together, these settings evoke a surprisingly contemporary impression of London's sights, sounds, and moods, inspiring some irresistible music, by turns contemplative and unquenchably thrilling. Songlist: Come Buy, The Flower Of Cities All, London Bells, Composed Upon Westminster Bridge, Good Morrow 9348b| Songbook $13.95| SATB. Bob Chilcott (Edited by): Spirituals For Choirs Review: An exciting collection of 20 specially commissioned SATB arrangements almost all of which are a cappella. The contents reflect the richness and diversity of the spiritual tradition, including many much-loved favourites like 'All My Trials'. All burst with freshness and invention to provide singers with inspirational, moving and above all enjoyable repertoire. As well as contributing five new pieces, the compiler Bob Chilcott has assembled a top selection of arrangers including Joseph Jennings, JohnWashburn and Steve Barnett. The result is a dazzling array of styles, from the introspective to the estatic (including a stylish gospel-influenced song or two along the way). With a mixture of large and small-scale pieces, there's something here for every choir whatever its forces or level of expertise. The choir is renowned as an expert ensemble and here they sing splendidly under Chilcott's direction. The selection of music on this disc has been well made to give a good variety of perspectives on Bob Chilcott's choral output - a resourceful composer and one who writes exceptionally well for voices and he is superbly served here by the virtuosity of the BBC Singers. This is a glorious showcase of one of the finest choral composers at work in Britain today. Songlist: The Skin, The Barrel of the Drum, The Two Curved Sticks of the Drummer, Gourds and Rattles, The Gong - Gong, My Prayer, O sapientia, O Adonai, O Radix Jesse, O Clavis David, O Oriens, O Rex Gentium, O Emmanuel, The Shepherd's Carol, And Every Stone Shall Cry, Pange Lingua, The Runner, The Last Invocation, One's - Self I Sing, Beach, Simple Pictures of Tomorrow, Weather Report, 8883c| 1 CD $15.95. Nordic Chamber Choir: Bob Chilcott - Choral Works Review: Born in 1955, Bob Chilcott has a fast-growing reputation as one of Britain's most popular and accessible composers of choral music. Bob Chilcott has been involved in choral music for most of his life, as a boy chorister and choral scholar at King's College, Cambridge, and as a member of the vocal group The King's Singers for twelve years. Over the past seven years he has poured his energy into the amateur choir world as a composer, conductor and choral clinician, with an emphasis on work with and for young singers. Chilcott has contributed a growing body of work to the repertoire of adult and children's choirs. As reflected in Canticles of Light, Chilcott's gifts are not limited to writing for adults, and he has gained an international reputation for his work with, and compositions for, children and young people. His song with sign language, 'Can you hear me? Has become one of the most widely-performed pieces in the children's choir world and in March 2001 Chilcott himself conducted a performance sung by 2000 children at The World of Children's Choirs Festival in Vancouver, Canada. Bob Chilcott continues to be in great demand as a conductor and workshop leader worldwide. As a conductor Bob has worked extensively with choirs and festivals throughout the world. For seven years he was conductor of the 200-voice Chorus at the Royal College of Music in London. He is Principal Guest Conductor of the BBC Singers, with whom he works regularly in studio recordings and concerts. He has also guest conducted the RIAS Kammerchor in Berlin, and the Elmer Iseler Singers in Toronto. Mar 10, 2010 Search titles only. How do I import user presets to GR4? Then I copied it to my documents/native instruments/shared content/sounds/guitar rig 4. Hi Telewacker, the preset you loaded will only show up under 'Amp', 'Style', 'Song' or whatever, if it has that tag. Make sure in the browser under 'preset attributes' nothing is selected (to deselect click on it once). Then all presets will be shown in the list at lower left and you should find it. You can also just use the search function. Type the name of the preset you're looking for into the search bar located between the list with the preset attributes and the list with the preset names, hope that helps! Import still not working. Thanks Hans but it still isn't working. I don't understand what is going on. Could it be that gtr rig4 doesn't recognize a bnk file from a lower version of gtr rig? When I select the bnk file ( Hans Van Even - Smoothdrive) and click on open, the dialog box disappears as if it downloaded the file but when I search the presets there isn't any thing that matches Hans Van Even - Smoothdrive. There must be something I am doing wrong! I am going to try a few other patches and see if they work. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Anyone else have any thoughts? Thanks, Sheldon. Hey Jume, It is simple really except that it defies common sense. The bnk files that you are importing are NOT the name of the patches. I guess they do this because a single bnk file can contain multiple patches. I download a blues bnk file that had 10 patches in it but how would I ever be able to find them in GR4 as the individual names were not listed. Once I discovered that the names weren't the same it was simple. Here's how to find them.once you have imported the bnk file, go to the preset dialog box that shows all of the factory presets, click on the # sign so it displays them in numerical order not alphabetical. The imported files or new presets will be at the very end. Anything you import, Grig stores those presets after all of the factory presets. Once you have done that, you will now see the names of the imported sounds and can find them alphabetically again. I hope this helps. Send me a PM if you need more help. Thanks, Sheldon. Hi telewcker. Thanks for writing down your findings. I tried all that but still most of stuff that I import I don't find in presets browser. But that probably is due to the fact that the bnk files were created with Guitar Rig Pro and I use GR Essential. Maybe this is the case and therefore those patches that use 'PRO' modules are just not available to me? The bundled patches in GR Essential don't sound good to me. It's far from what you hear from GR demo movies. There should be at list some kind of oldies goldies rock'n'roll patch included (e.g. Chuck Barry) I guess I will have to upgrade in order to include most of those user patches available on this site! PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds offers the things that many of the game should offer: it provides a large scaled battle with a multiplayer option. The battle is quite exciting and most importantly it is accessible. 100 people will be on an island with buildings, abandoned villages, factories and their aim is to find some weapon and kill the others. The scale of the map will narrow as time passes and the survival chances of the players decrease as they have to stay outdoors. The last player or team remain in the game will win the game. The game is not new or innovative however it is much better than the games on the market and it has a structure which can be consumed by the new players. These features make the game perfect. One of the reasons why PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds is successful is that players do not waste any time for the action. When all of the 100 players will be connected, the game offers you a map which does not create any obstacles for you or make any confusion. In case you will not be able to find a weapon during the first moments, that player usually dies as soon as possible. As time passes, the map which is getting smaller in size directs the players to the middle of the map and each other. The main reason for the air attacks is to direct the people to each other and it can be shown with the red color on your minimap. This is a move that is being made by the game in order to let the players get close to each other and start the action. One of the other multiplayer games, DayZ became popular due to its unpredictable nature. DayZ does not have any ultimate goal and this is why player encounters may end with various scenarios: mutual fear and flee, annoying and long distance conflict, long time quietness. PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds solve the problem of the conflicts by providing enough space to all players. You have to constantly move and you always have a goal. It forces you to pay attention. You learn how to track other players: open doors, weapon on the ground, however, there is no ammunition. Or more prominent thing: a move on the window or the sound of a car coming from a distance. You can move easily while you are checking the map and inventory. It is much easier to place the goods on the ground by clicking on the right button of your mouse and drag them. It is much more balanced and it provides the real sense in terms of shooting. It only takes few minutes to join a new game. It may a lot quicker to lose some of the games in case you cannot find a weapon as well. Although the game offers the early access, for now, it attracted attention from the entire world and the only thing that we can tell for a game like this is: we are going to hear its name a lot in the future. The game is only available on the Windows platform for now and it will be available on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One when the early access period will be completed. Old furniture shows cracking and crazing for a number of reasons, some environmental, some chemical. Alligatoring or crazing is one of the signs that a piece may be antique, or rustic and hand-crafted with incompatible available finish materials. It's fairly simple to re-create the effect with contemporary faux painting kits, or with something as basic as school glue. Old World Chippy Distressed Paint Finish. For this table, I really wanted an Old World Finish, a finish that looks authentic and has tons of character. Salvage a boring 'save' from the attic, or reinvent a flea market find with a faux web of cracked paint that looks like the real thing. Crackle Kit Control A faux-aging crackle kit provides crackle medium, applicators and clear instructions for creating a fine or prominent web of crazing on painted surfaces. You decide exactly where to place the 'deteriorated' paint by limiting the areas you cover with the glazing medium. The thickness of the application can also be manipulated to achieve a spidery fine web or strongly defined cracks in the topcoat. Since authentic crazing represents paint that has broken due to weathering or the disintegration of age and then, it's usual to paint the base coat in a darker color and the topcoat a lighter shade so the cracks will show clearly. Paint the piece, let it dry hard -- overnight is good -- sponge or brush on crackle glaze where you want the effect to show, and apply the topcoat when the glaze is just tacky. The chemical reaction of the paint and glaze does the rest. Protect the finish with a clear, nonyellowing polyurethane or varnish. Spray and Craze All-over crackling with spray-on crackle paint may save you a step, but it doesn't work quite as well for isolating specific areas than it does for crackling the entire piece. Follow the directions of the manufacturer -- several well-known and widely available paint suppliers make crackle spray paint -- and be sure to use water-based latex for your topcoat for best results. Select a base coat color that contrasts with the topcoat; the base coat is all-in-one color and crackle glaze medium. Spray two coats of the color, typically a darker shade, on a surface cleaned of dust and dirt so the paint will adhere. The instructions may say to wait only two to three minutes between base coats. When the base coats dry to tacky, spray on a contrasting topcoat and watch the crackling take over as the topcoat dries. Experiment with two light base coats and one even topcoat for light crackling; two heavy base coats and two or three layers of topcoat for medium cracks; or two heavy base coats and three or four even topcoats for large crackling. Glue Job Create a 'cheap' antique with supplies you have around the house. Leftover paint and school glue will transform old furniture into faux-aged furniture, a degree of difference that imparts a touch of class. Paint the surface of the piece with a dark latex or acrylic and let it dry. Brush a generous coat of white school glue over the dry paint; the direction of your brushstrokes determines the orientation of the eventual cracks. Brush in the direction of the grain for cracks that run along the grain of the wood. As soon as the glue sets -- it can still be tacky or just barely dry but not hard -- paint the contrasting topcoat over the piece and leave it. Glue takes longer than commercial crackle medium to craze the topcoat, but it will create cracks along the application strokes that give you an almost-instant faux-antique. Spray-on clear finish will help to keep your crackled effect intact, and you won't risk dissolving the glue and smearing the crackling, as you might with a wetter brush-on finish. I've provided links below to the relevant products so that you can easily find them on Blick Art Materials, my favorite online art supplier. I'm a member of Blick's affiliate program, which means if you make a purchase after clicking on one of these links, I'll receive a small commission (at no extra cost to you). Your purchase helps support this site and keeps it free of ads. For more info. To achieve an aged, cracked look with your paintings, you can use mediums such as,, DecoArt Weathered Crackling Medium, or Reeves Crackle Spray. The medium I'd most recommend is, because Golden is well-known for creating professional-quality artist products. The paste will shrink as it dries, so it is best to use a rigid support such as, rather than canvas, which might warp as the crackle paste dries. If you really want to use canvas though, be sure to use stretched canvas rather than unstretched canvas. Whichever support you use, whether canvas or wood, be sure to with 1-2 coats of. This is essential for allowing the Golden Crackle Paste to adhere well to your chosen surface. Using Golden Crackle Paste is a two or three step process, depending on the colors you would like to use. First you will choose the color that will be the bottom layer or background - the color that will be underneath the crackle paste. This is the color that will show through the cracks. For an aged look, you might choose white, black or brown. After you've painted the bottom layer and let it dry, you can apply the Golden Crackle Paste. The crackle paste is white, so you can apply it as-is or mix color into it. Using a, apply the crackle paste over the surface of your canvas or wood support, making the layer as smooth as possible. You'll have to experiment to determine the optimal thickness of the crackle paste - if it's too thin, the cracks will be barely noticeable, and if it's too thick, it may take several days to dry. Around 1/8' thickness is recommended. In any case, the thicker the paste, the deeper the cracks - so ultimately the thickness depends on the look you are going for. For this reason, I'd recommend doing some small tests with the Golden Crackle Paste before you apply it to an entire canvas or wood support. For instance, you can test it by applying a layer of Golden Crackle Paste to 3 small canvases or small wooden supports. Apply a thick layer onto 1 small canvas, a medium layer on another small canvas, and a thin layer on a third small canvas. Let them dry overnight and then assess the results. As the paste dries, it should crack, creating the crackle effect across your canvas. The dried layer of Golden Crackle Paste is very absorbent, so you can paint washes of color over top of it, if desired. Watery washes of color are preferred over thick applications of paint, because the washes will best accentuate the crackle look. There are also some other crackle mediums you can try, but they've been getting mixed reviews. One of them is Jo Sonja's Crackle Medium, but some say that Jo Sonja's Crackle Medium doesn't really crackle very much. Another brand you could try is DecoArt Weathered Crackling Medium. DecoArt Weathered Crackling Medium can be used to create small cracks (as opposed to the thicker cracks that can be achieved with Golden Crackle Paste). When using DecoArt Weathered Crackling Medium, the instructions are basically the same as described above, except you'll use a brush to brush on the crackling medium. If you live in the UK, you could try a product called Reeves Crackle Spray, which is similar to the mediums and pastes described above, except it comes in a spray form. When finished with your painting, to both protect your work and achieve a smooth finish. RIDDIMS LIST: 1. 95PERCENT BLACK RIDDIM -1994 2. ACID RIDDIM – (VINYL) – 1994 3. Downloads > Other Consoles > Neo Geo CD > Samuria Shodown RPG. Japanese Menus and gameplay are in Japanese. Samurai Shodown RPG, known as Samurai Spirits, a True Story: Bushido Biographies (Shinsetsu Samurai Spirits - Bushidou Retsuden) in Japan, is a console role-playing game for the SNK's Neo Geo CD system, and was also ported to the Sega Saturn and Sony PlayStation. It was never released outside of Japan. The development history of the game is fairly storied. It was announced for development at the height of the Samurai Shodown series' popularity in 1995, and underwent many delays in the process, finally being released a few years later. For some time, rumors abounded that it was never going to come out. As originally envisioned, the game was to be split into three episodes: one for each of the three games in the series. For a while, it was to be a NeoCD exclusive, but developmental and financial pressures caused SNK to also release it for the other two current systems. In a somewhat inexplicable marketing move, SNK decided that each version was to contain only two of the three episodes, thereby necessitating a player to buy two copies of the game in order to get the whole thing. Unsurprisingly, this plan resulted in a significant backlash from fans, and was discarded. Eventually, as development ground on, the executive decision was finally made to scrap the third chapter entirely, and focus solely on the first two, so as to allow the game to be released sooner. This may, in fact, be the only reason SNK's original two-chapters-per-version plan wasn't put into effect. Finally, it was released in mid-1997, to generally mixed reviews. While it was praised for its striking animation and 2D visuals, it was hampered by excessive load times. Despite this, speculations were made of a possible localized US release by Working Designs, but rumors proved false. The basic setup of the game is very similar to most console RPGs, such as Final Fantasy. Your characters roam an overworld, enter towns and dungeons, and get into battles, which occur on a separate screen. The menu options enable equipping of armor and accessories, as well as use of items. At the outset, the player is given the option to choose from six characters to be the 'main' character of the story. They were Haohmaru, Nakoruru, Genjuro Kibagami, Galford D. Weller, Ukyo Tachibana and Cham Cham. The basic outline of the plot did not diverge greatly for any of them, but each had different dialogue ingame, and each also had unique special scenes which would go into greater detail of the character. In addition, to better adjust to character continuity, certain stories were modified slightly based on the selected chapter. Over the course of the game, two other characters could also join your party (unless the hero is Genjuro who only gains a partner in his second story). The secondary characters who could join you were Charlotte Christine Colde, Rimururu and Kyoshiro Senryo, as well as other 'main' characters whom the player did not select at the outset. In addition, the second chapter also introduced a new character, a warrior by the name of Shippuu no Reon, whose name translates roughly to 'The Ringing of the Gale Winds.' All of the first two Samurai Shodown games' characters make an appearance, either as a temporary helper, plot device, and/or enemy. DIFFERENCES BETWEEN RELEASED VERSIONS: - The Neo Geo CD version has considerably more animation in the combat sprites than the PS and Saturn, including unique idle stances for each character, and specialized death animations for monsters. - The Neo Geo CD version has more ornate and colorful menus, whereas the PS and Saturn versions have fairly blank, purple-and-green menus instead. - Motions in the Neo Geo CD version have a smoother look and feel than the others. - In the overworld map, the NeoCD version uses a scaled-down version of the dungeon/down character sprite. The PS version uses a new sprite entirely. - The Neo Geo CD runs in its native resolution of 304x224, whereas the PS and Saturn run in 320x240. - The Neo Geo CD version has less pauses in between audio clips than the others. - The PS and Saturn version have significant animation cuts in the characters' walk/run animations. - The PS version enables the player to select the strength of a normal attack after choosing a target, whereas the Neo Geo CD does not. - The PS version shows an Active Time Battle bar, which the NeoCD lacks. - The PS version has higher-quality music than either of the other two versions, owing to higher-quality PCM samples. Bonus content: The most obvious differences between the three versions are the bonus modes which are unlocked after beating the game. Neo Geo CD: A third 'mini-chapter' is enabled, wherein the player controls Hisame Shizumaru as he wanders around, running into cameos appearances of various SNK characters from other games. PlayStation: A 'side story' mode is enabled, which enables the player to view non-interactive sequences about many of the series' other characters. Saturn: An interview mode is enabled, which enables the player to view a lengthy, non-interactive sequence about the various characters (which frequently breaks the fourth wall). This bonus content is also available in the PlayStation version, by way of a hacked save file. STORY: 1 - The First Scenario - Jiatenkourin no Sho (Amakusa's Scenario) This scenario is about the evil Amakusa Shirou Tokisada who is trying to conquer Japan. As you know, you can choose one from six characters as your main character. For this scenario, every main character starts off differently from the others. That means, a different main character holds a different purpose to defeat Amakusa. Therefore, the story lines may vary depending on who you choose. Haohmaru: Haohmaru starts off in Nicotine's training room(Nicotine is the master of Haohmaru and Genjuro). Amakusa comes to 'visit' Haohmaru and ask him to join the evil dark forces. Haohmaru refuses. Genjuro hears everything they say and he is pissed off that Amakusa doesn't even ask him to join him. Then, he challenges Haohmaru. Haohmaru loses to Genjuro. Later, Haohmaru begins his journey to defeat the evil Amakusa. Kibagami Genjuro: Genjuro's beginning is almost the same as above(Haohmaru's). But for Genjuro's version, he fights Amakusa instead of Haohmaru. Of course, he loses to Amakusa. He is pissed off and he begins his journey to defeat Amakusa. Nakoruru: Nakoruru starts off in her home village. Nakoruru and her sister, Rimururu are worry about their father who hasn't come back yet. Nakoruru goes off to search for her father, after she receives her father's sword from her hawk, Mamaha. She finds her father and he tells her that the growing evil force might endanger nature. He tells her that she must go to Edo to find Jubei. Tachibana Ukyo: Ukyo comes to ask the old wise man about the 'ultimate flower'. After the old man is touched by Ukyo's determination to search for the flower, he then tells him that he can only find the flower at the gate of devil's place. The old man asks him to go find Jubei for assistance. Ukyo then begins his journey. Galford: Galford and Earthquake are going to learn more techniques from Hanzo. But suddenly, Amakusa comes and takes away Shinzo(Hanzo's son)'s body. Amakusa wants to use his body as the host. Hanzo can't stand a chance with him. After Amakusa is gone, Hanzo rushes to find him. The righteous Galford also begins his journey to defeat Amakusa. Cham Cham: Tam Tam has always been the protector of his village. But one day, Amakusa comes to 'visit' and takes away the Parenke Stone. Because Tam Tam is not able to protect the Parenke Stone, the god of that stone punish him and turns him to a monkey. Cham Cham then realizes that she has to get it back. So, she begins her journey with the monkey, Paku Paku(Tam Tam) to search for Amakusa and get the Parenke Stone back from him. 2 - The Second Scenario - Youkadoukoku no Sho (Mizuki's Scenario) For this scenario, it doesn't matter who you choose as your main character, you'll get the same beginning. Nicotine Caffein realize that the hell's sorcerer Mizuki Rahoujin is resurrected. In order to stop Mizuki from turning this world to hell, Nicotine has asked you(the main character) to prevent this from happening. You start off with yourself(main character) and other Samurai you choose. Later, this person named Reon will join your party. From what we know, she is trained to defeat Mizuki. CHARACTERS: - Cham Cham - Sister to the Greenhell hero, Tam Tam, who goes to Japan to find the Palenke Stone. She battles Mizuki because she 'needs to beat the bad guys'. - Charlotte - optional secondary character. If she joins with Haohmaru as the main hero in the second chapter, they will exchange a special conversation when she comes home to Paris. - Galford - Upon just completing his training with Hanzo, his mentor's son, Shinzo, is possessed by Amakusa. He leaves alone to deal justice to Amakusa. He intends the same with Mizuki. - Haohmaru - While in Nicotine's dojo, he is confronted by Amakusa to join his forces. He refuses and gets beaten badly by Genjuro in a duel. When he awakens, he begins to wonder about his own potential, and leaves to vanquish Amakusa and find self-fulfillment. He honors his master's wishes and goes to slay Mizuki in his stead. - Kibagami Genjuro - Humiliated by Amakusa for his preference for Haohmaru, he sets out to kill him. When Mizuki terrorizes the world, he decides to kill her from pure interest. Due to his arrogance, he is the only hero who does his story solo (the exception being Reon and his non-fighting pet in his party). - Nakoruru - Much like her original origin story but with Rimururu present. When her father is killed by a wild bear, she goes to slay the source of the evil, Amakusa. Mizuki's revival again stirred trouble for Nature so she sets out to save it. - Rimururu - optional secondary character. She will have special dialogue if the main hero who recruits her is Nakoruru. - Senryo Kyoshiro - optional secondary character. - Shippu no Reon - original character. Appears in Mizuki chapter as the mandatory third/second character. A mysterious warrior on a mission to defeat Mizuki, no matter the cost. - Tachibana Ukyo - Ill and intending to ease his beloved Kei's worry, he leaves to find the ultimate flower for her pleasure. The flower he finds after Amakusa's defeat was genuine so as a favor to Nicotine, he goes to slay Mizuki.
